How did this all come about?
The beginnings of The Free Web Crew started out of my van in 2017 where I taught myself how to craft a beautiful website for my own outdoor fitness business.
In early 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic and corporate downsizing many friends and family members including myself were getting laid off jobs and started businesses of their own.
The pandemic was a global reset for flexible work arrangements and a lot of people want it to stay that way.
That combined with the cost of inflation has seen many start up small businesses from home.
They craved a more balanced lifestyle — but some didn’t have a professional website to showcase their products or services. As freelance web developer myself, I thought I could help.
In 2023 I started The Free Web Crew and gathered a web team helping other fitness professionals build their websites. Now I help a variety of businesses build out their websites.
Why we didn’t charge anyone.
Instead, we simply asked them to mention us to their friends or consider us for future projects if they were happy with the work.
(Some even showed their appreciation with coffee and snacks.)
The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, and many clients later returned for paid services like advanced customizations and SEO improvements—enough that it inspired us to launch The Free Web Crew.
By building websites for free, we found that trust naturally developed over time, often leading to clients choosing us for additional paid work once they’d seen the value we deliver.
To date, we’ve built 500+ professional websites for people around the world.
